A foreigner came to my convenience store. Today I was a clerk. He asked me the place of shop.
" Konohen ni recycle shop ha arimasuka? "
(in Japanese... This sentence means
" Do you know a recycle shop around here?")
" recycle ... humm... used..."
For a moment I felt he restated Japanese to English daringly.
But "recycle" was English, too. Most Japanese will feel "recycle"is Japanese.
There are a lot English we feel Japanese.
外人がコンビニにやって来た。今日の私はコンビにの店員さんです。
彼が言うのさ「この辺にリサイクルショップはありませんか?」って。
で、「リサイクルって… ユウズトゥです」とかって言い直すわけ。
一瞬、この人日本語で説明出来たのに、なんで英語で説明しなおすんだぁ!?と思ったよ。
いやいや考えたらリサイクルも英語でした。でも多くの日本人がリサイクルって日本語のように感じてるよなぁ〜 そういう英語って結構あるよねぇ〜。
